Work
I have about 10 years in the industry. In the US I worked in corporate consulting, building web applications for utilities (Exelon, BGE, ConEd, and others). In late 2020 I moved to Japan and really hit my stride working at early-stage startups.
You could say I’m a “product engineer”, but product thinking is just part of the job. I think everyone should share ideas and take responsibility for improving what we’re building.
How I work
I admit when I’m wrong, and I’m not afraid to do so. I look for that same candor in those I work with.
I do well in high autonomy environments where I can make decisions and own the outcome. I prefer receiving problems, rather than solutions. Coming up with solutions is the fun part, and it’s typically the whole reason I’m hired in the first place.
I think I have a great sense of which corners to cut, and how to properly balance quality and velocity in startups. I like to work with other motivated people who encourage each other to do their best.
To keep things moving, I act on the best guess I can make from incomplete information. Fast, imperfect iterations are better than slow, perfect ones.
I have experience:
- Leading frontend architecture for CRUD heavy, functionally complex applications
- Managing cross-functional teams as the directly responsible individual (DRI)
- Optimizing marketing websites for web vitals metrics, SEO, etc.
- Building design systems and component libraries
- ...and more!
Cool things I've built
- Electric vehicle emissions calculator for a utility
- Marketing/sales website for a language learning startup
- Uchiwarabe - best Tokyo sushi and omakase
- Uchisurube - sister restaurant of Uchiwarabe
- TOMCARRY - restorative curry restaurant
